Leaving a relationship can be quite stressful. In this article, I’m going to talk about how to take breaks effectively between relationships and protect your positive energy in the process of looking for love.
· Do activities that fill you up and support a strong mindset.
Don’t watch horror movies or listen to sad songs. Deliberately do empowering activities such as reading, dancing, traveling and listening to podcasts. Remember to inject some joy into your life every single day – that includes adding some meaningful distractions to your schedule, e.g., going to the gym, going to a concert, and so on. Never save joy for the future when you assume everything will be perfectly fine, because that time never comes for anyone (perfection is a joke as it doesn’t even exist).
Even in the most difficult time of your life, it’s still important to do more activities which give you a lot of joy. Find something compelling to look forward to (like making plans for an overseas trip). This will give you strength even when you’re in the middle of a breakup.
I would encourage you to write down the happy moments in your life and then refer to your list often, for this list will remind you of what makes you happy and these are the activities that you should do more of nowadays.
· Be aware of how much time you actually need between relationships.
After a breakup, you might want to take a pause between relationships, which is totally understandable. But I would argue that the recovery time is probably proportionate to how serious the previous romantic relationship is. In other words, not every failed dating scenario should make you take a long period of time off. Yet if you left a truly stressful relationship that has recently made you absolutely exhausted emotionally, it’s necessary to give yourself enough time just to fill you back up again, and then you will be ready for true love.
· Ease back into dating with good vibes:
I’d like you to do something that improves your dating life while benefiting your life in general. For example, you may join a mastermind group or a book club that will make you more enlightened while introducing you to high-quality people who also value knowledge.
When you meet someone that you are attracted to, do implement the principle of ‘invest and test’, i.e., you invest in this person first and then see their response. If this person also invests in you, that is a green flag. But if this person doesn’t invest in you, that’s a red flag.
Don’t invest in someone based on how much you like them. Invest in someone based on how much they invest in you.
